WRITING |
|
This is a 9-week course that covers the basics of Engineering. Students will complete three (3) writing assignments. Each written article content must be the equivalent of 1/2 to 1 page of 12 point, Times New Roman, single spaced text. I do not count margins, names, or paragraph spacing. If handwritten on college ruled paper, 3/4 to 1 1/2 page of margin-to-margin text is required.
Quarter 4:
Articles:
- Engineering Disaster: You may choose any engineering disaster from history. Review the event and give a synopsis. Also give safety steps that could have been used to help avoid the disaster. For example, upgraded materials, proper labeling, etc.
- Life Changing: What will be the next big life changing technological development, why, and how? Examples from the past are automobiles (transportation) and telephones (communication).
- Go Green: What one technology has the ability to create a more sustainable technological, societal and social footprint? Describe the technology, its impact and how it works. Understand- this technology may not exist, now. It is YOUR idea!
Quarter 3:
Articles:
- Historical Engineering: You may choose any construction from the ancient world. How was it constructed? What materials were used? What were the engineering advances developed for the project? These are only a few questions that can be asked and answered.
- Technology development: Choose an invention or technology that has developed over time and compare the initial version with the current version. For example, an original telephone and a current smartphone. (Don't use this!)
- Bleeding Edge: A new or recently developed technology or invention that has the potential to change the future. Describe the technology and its impact.
Quarter 2:
Articles:
- Historical Figure in Engineering: You may choose any figure from history who is a known engineer of accomplishment.
- Culturally changing invention: Choose an invention that has changed our culture, i.e. the car, electric lights, or the smart phone. (Don't use these!)
- Future: Look into a technology or invention that has the potential to change the future. Describe the technology and its impact.
Quarter 1: One must be a current engineering project review. One must be an article summary. These are the choices.
